The third version of tmail that Jonatan and Erik presented in April now has it's first new mobile user! :-)
After a week of finetuning the synchronisation between the Parliament's mailservers and the tmail server, Margarita and Erik met up at the Mickey Mouse bar in the EP in Brussels with Jonatan on irc to try set up tmail on Margarita's android. She already had gmail, so the setup was quite simple using the android mail client in the same way.
Since tmail provides EP mail over IMAP, it's (open ;-) standard procedure, you just fill in ports for incoming and outgoing mail, account name, user name etc. And the password of course. In the previous versions of tmail Erik and Jonatan shared the password to be able to develop tmail (yes it's against the rules... never ever share your password!!!), but now the password is transferred to the tmail server just as securely as when you log into the Parliament's webmail.
It was quite fast, Erik said, the hardest part was to irc with Jonatan in Göteborg and keep up with tapping on the android at the same time!
We compared our accounts to get all the details right, and in the end something started blinking on the tmail server side, said Margarita.
With the tmail server you also get a mail account @tratten.eu which can be used in parallel to the @europarl.europa.eu mail address and accessed via https://tratten.eu/webmail
It remains to be explored if tmail can help overcome some of the difficulties with combining mailing lists like Yahoo!- and Google-groups with the Parliament's mail services.
